Location: Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and HematologyPay Range: $54,641.60 - $101,462.40 Position Summary:Responsible for overseeing a team of phlebotomists and/or medical assistants in the coordination of daily specimen processing in the laboratory department at a practice. Oversees clinic level, multi clinic level phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Communicates with staff physicians, clinic employees, operations and AON Lab regarding patient specimens. Ensures efficient and technically correct systems and procedures in the lab that include QA/QC of reagents, instrumentation, proficiency testing, etc. Key Performance Areas:Oversees the scheduling of staff to process patient specimens and perform patient specimen testing for the clinic. Monitors the workflow and trains staff on proper procedures. Operates all instruments and is proficient on all software used in clinic laboratory areas. Performs instrument maintenance and QC. Reviews daily technical systems for assurance of quality and efficiency and applies corrective action when necessary. Assures adherence to laboratory Standard Operating Procedures. Assures instruments and reagents are within quality parameters. Participates in laboratory research and development projects as needed and as time permits. Maintains personal continuing education in the areas required for license renewal and keeps license current. Coordinates with clinic and AON Lab Analyst for the ordering of supplies. Ensures and maintains the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times. Responsible for performing proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing. Perform laboratory blood work. Perform blood draws. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing. Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulatory agencies. Assists providers bedside during bone marrow biopsies. Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation. Send outside labs to appropriate facility as dictated by patient's insurance plan. Receive lab reports via the telephone, lab system, or fax and document in the patient's chart or Onco/EMR for physician's review. Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies. Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines. Perform any and all duties required to keep laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies. Must be able to perform compliance testing. Must take the required number of CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements. Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment. Comply will all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care and the lab. Adhere to all Company and departmental policies and procedures, including policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan Supervisory Duties:Has the authority to initiate actions and make decisions within established precedents or well-defined policy with regular managerial direction and review. Including hiring, counseling, termination. Oversees daily activities of department to maximize scheduling and real-time utilization of resources. Shifts resources as needed. Supervises phlebotomists' and requires proficient and safe patient care Interacts with management to ensure smooth flow of work through department. Participates in daily, weekly, monthly, and annual planning process as appropriate. Oversees department metrics. Interacts with outside vendors and evaluates proposals for laboratory improvement (instrumentation/processing systems) for feasibility and effectiveness. Directs and oversees validation processes prior to the implementation of new systems, policies, or procedures to CAP standards. Monitors volume trends and ensures the laboratory is appropriately stocked with the necessary supplies, reagents, and chemicals. Writes/edits/updates new and existing policies and procedures and collaborates with the laboratory manager if assistance is needed. Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness. Projects a favorable image of the company to promote its aims and objectives and foster and enhance public recognition and acceptance of all of its areas of endeavor. Keeps manager informed of all problems or unusual matters and takes prompt corrective action when necessary or performs root cause analysis and proposes counter measures to mitigate risk of recurrence. Completes all other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab, Chemistry, Biology or related field. Experience may be substituted for education.. Must have greater than 5 years clinical laboratory experience in the specialty for which you will supervise. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Job Qualifications and Requirements:Education:
