Overview

The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full-time, on-site Certified Professional Coder (CPC) to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

Under direct supervision, performs all medical record coding activities. Assigns appropriate diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports as assigned. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Abstracts relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record to assign and record ICD-10 and CPT codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines.

  • Identifies principal and secondary diagnosis with minimal error based on the national-based standards.

  • Review and complete audit requests from insurance companies.

  • Review physician hospital charges, create charge tickets and enter charges accordingly in Practice Management System.

  • Retrieve medical records and attach to the patient's EMR accordingly.

  • Review and enter lab charges, as necessary.

  • Updates coding procedures and guidelines.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of the medical information contained in each record.

  • Demonstrates compliance with all policies and procedures including HIPAA privacy rules and maintains confidentiality of patient and company information.

  • Attends required, applicable meetings.

  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.

  • Ensures all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.

  • Other duties as requested or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Education and or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum CPC-A certification required.

  • Minimum of one year of coding medical experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical records, coding procedures, and knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS Coding Systems is highly desirable.

Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:

  • None required.
