About the Job

Compensation Overview of the Position:

  • Full-time, Regular, Teamsters Union Job Classification
  • Starting wage: $22.02/hr
  • 40 hours a week, 9-months per year
    • Schedule is based on business needs and may include evenings and weekends as necessary to accommodate catering event schedules
    • Monday through Wednesday, 10:30 am to 7 pm
    • Thursday and Friday, 3 pm to 11:30 pm
  • Benefits eligible: Health insurance, dental insurance, short/long-term disability, flex spending, etc.
  • Regent Scholarship: Free tuition on first Bachelor's degree, discounted tuition after

UMD Dining Services provides diverse and high-quality dining options across campus, including Superior Dining, our all-you-care-to-eat residential dining center, and a Food Court with five unique concepts-Subs & Wraps, Burgers, Pizza, Burritos, and Grab & Go. We also operate Northern Shores Coffee Shop, two dining kiosks, and a full-service restaurant, along with catering services for campus events. Dining Services focuses on providing diverse food options, sustainability efforts, and quality service to the campus community.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for team oversight of set up, delivery, and execution of service
  • Operate a variety of equipment used in preparation, delivery, service of hot and cold foods and beverages
  • Organize and direct the team to meet standards and deadlines efficiently
  • Provide excellent customer service by maintaining a professional, friendly and service oriented demeanor
  • Operate the POS system and comply with cash handling policies
  • Prepare items, set up, tear down, and clean up each meal period
  • Complete any cashier related reporting Maintain cleanliness and organization of workplace and service areas
  • Put away food and supplies
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning as assigned
  • Maintain timeliness of tasks concurrent with operation schedules and needs

Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and food quality
  • Monitor and ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience or education in customer service or food service
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment
  • Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner
  • Cashier experience preferred but not required

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours)
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Experience in supervising or leading teams is a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding food quality and preparation
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team and work collaboratively with others
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.02 - $24.61 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
