Job Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs routine and moderately complex laboratory tests under the supervision of senior laboratory staff, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and timely reporting of results. This role requires adherence to quality standards and regulatory guidelines, as well as strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:



  • Perform routine laboratory tests as assigned, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and under the guidance of senior personnel.

  • Conduct and document quality control (QC) procedures to ensure the accuracy of test results and instrument functionality.

  • Perform and report moderate complexity testing with proper on-site training and supervision.

  • Handle specimens in compliance with laboratory policies for processing, analysis, and reporting.

  • Maintain required turnaround times, especially for STAT and critical test results.

  • Track reagent/test kit usage, including recording received, opened, and expiration dates.

  • Enter and verify test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for physician review.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and functionality of laboratory work areas and equipment.

  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab safety protocols, using personal protective equipment and engineering controls as directed.

  • Report any test deviations or quality concerns to supervisory staff and participate in corrective action investigations.

  • Answer questions from internal lab personnel or clients as needed.

  • Assist during government or regulatory inspections when required.

  • Complete assigned training, competency assessments, and ongoing education as applicable.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications:
Required:



  • Associates Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology.

  • Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990).


  • Preferred:




  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

  • 1 to 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.



Skills & Competencies.



  • Solid understanding of clinical laboratory theory and operations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration and client interaction.

  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

  • Manual dexterity for handling laboratory instruments and equipment.



Physical & Mental Requirements:



  • Ability to lift and carry light to moderately heavy objects (up to 25 lbs frequently).

  • Stand or sit at laboratory bench for extended periods.

  • Perform repetitive tasks using manual and automated lab tools requiring dexterity.

  • Walk and stand frequently in a lab environment.


Work Environment:


  • Clinical laboratory setting with exposure to biohazards and chemicals.

  • Use of protective gear such as gloves, lab coats, and eye protection required.
