SUMMARY: The Configuration Management Leader is responsible for aerospace configuration management systems and processes. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity and traceability of product configurations throughout the entire product lifecycle-from design and development to production and sustainment. The CME will establish and maintain configuration management processes to ensure compliance with internal and customer requirements. The engineer will manage the entire process from change initiation to customer approval to final release. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in configuration management principles, aerospace standards, and engineering change processes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Define and document configuration items and documentation such as engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Implement and maintain version control systems for hardware ensuring traceability of changes and adherence to internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management (CM) plans, policies, and procedures in accordance with industry standards.
  • Develop and enforce change management processes for modifying configurations including submission, review, approval, and implementation of changes.
  • Coordinate and support engineering change control processes, including Change Requests (CR), Change Notices (CN), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Manage product baselines and ensure proper documentation control of hardware, software, and systems configurations.
  • Maintain accurate records including status, location, and history of configuration items, using configuration management databases to ensure effective version control and traceability of design artifacts, technical data packages, BOMs, and related documentation.
  • Administer configuration management tools and PLM systems (e.g. Teamcenter, SAP PLM).Track and audit configuration items (CIs) and ensure compliance with internal and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and program management to ensure CM requirements are met.
  • Lead Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and maintain records of configuration changes and approvals.
  • Support customer and regulatory audits and reviews by providing accurate and timely configuration status reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • 5 years of configuration management experience in the aviation industry, preferably with an OEM or aerospace manufacturer.
  • OR an additional 3 years of engineering experience in lieu of degree.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management standards (e.g. EIA-649, ISO 10007).
  • Strong understanding of aircraft components.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools and practices, including version control systems, CMDBs, and change management processes.
  • Understanding of airworthiness regulations and certification processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex configuration data and documentation for multiple mechanical components.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes of configuration issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies relevant to aviation configuration management.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:



  • 9+ years of engineering experience within the aviation industry.
  • Experience with AS9100 or other aerospace quality systems.
  • CMII certification or similar CM training.
  • Familiarity with software tools for configuration management.
