Position Title: Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE)

Location: Washington, DC

Clearance: TS/SCI

Position Summary:

Command Cyber Solutions is seeking a skilled and proactive Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the design, implementation, and integration of secure systems and architecture across the enterprise. The ISSE will serve as a technical security expert, working closely with system architects, developers, and cybersecurity professionals to ensure that security is embedded throughout the system lifecycle. This role is critical in protecting systems from cyber threats and ensuring compliance with applicable risk management frameworks, policies, and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement secure system architectures and technical solutions that meet security requirements.

  • Integrate security controls into systems and applications during design, development, and implementation phases.

  • Conduct security engineering analysis, risk assessments, and technical trade-off studies.

  • Develop and maintain documentation such as System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Control Traceability Matrices (SCTMs), and risk assessment reports.

  • Support system accreditation efforts under RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and other applicable frameworks.

  • Work with ISSOs, System Owners, and Developers to resolve security findings and ensure timely remediation.

  • Evaluate system configurations and provide recommendations to harden operating systems, networks, and applications.

  • Perform vulnerability assessments, interpret scan results, and support mitigation planning.

  • Participate in incident response and forensics activities as needed.

  • Stay current on emerging threats, tools, and best practices in cybersecurity engineering.

Education, Certification & Experience Requirements:

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, systems engineering, or secure systems development.

Certification Required:

  • Security+ (Required).

  • CISSP, CASP+, CEH, or GICSP (Preferred).

Experience Required:

  • Strong knowledge of security engineering principles, secure coding practices, and systems architecture.

  • Experience with security tools such as ACAS, Nessus, Splunk, SCAP, and STIGs.

  • Familiarity with risk frameworks including NIST RMF, FedRAMP, DoD 8500 series, and FISMA.

  • Experience support Authorization to Operate (ATO) processes in federal or defense environments.

  • Understanding of cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid system integration.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal cybersecurity policies, risk frameworks, and secure system lifecycle practices.

  • Knowledge of systems architecture, secure configuration baselines, and enclave security models.

  • Skill in designing and evaluating security controls for complex IT systems and networks.

  • Skill in conducting technical risk assessments and interpreting vulnerability scan results.

  • Skill in drafting technical documentation for compliance, accreditation, and audit readiness.

  • Ability to communicate technical security risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead security engineering efforts in coordination with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to solve complex security challenges in dynamic and evolving environments.
