Overview

  • Registration Specialist, 2nd Shift, Rockford, 80 Hrs /2 wks
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri 10:30am - 7:00pm

The Registration Specialist is primarily responsible for ensuring that established standardized front-end policies and procedures are effectively and consistently shared with partners. Creates and provides Registration and scheduling training to new and existing partners in a classroom setting. Training that is created provides standardized training to frontline partners to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with Mercy policy, procedures and guidelines as well as government regulations. Creates and provides training for system upgrades in registration and scheduling. Provides standardized training programs for employees to improve quality and ensure compliance with Mercy policies and procedures, regulations, and guidelines. Collaborate with the Mercy hospital and clinic leadership to facilitate standardized delivery of processes to ensure compliance with cash handling, and other established guidelines and standards. Management of registration workqueues to correct registration issues to ensure timely filing and reimbursement for services. The Registration Specialist remains a continual resource for frontline and hospital staff via phone and email and onsite training.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes billing denials related to registration errors to investigate root cause.
  • May be responsible for correction of highly complex registration issues and system set up.
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of finding resolution to complex registration errors and issues.
  • Researches the registration requirements of insurance companies through phone, web, or review of contracts and monitor insurance notification of changes that may impact front end processes.
  • Performs monthly registration audits to confirm pre-admission functions, insurance verification and pre-certification actions are performed and accurate.
  • Takes opportunity through audits to provide education to partners in need of guidance.
  • Provides feedback to partner leadership partners and if audit findings show ongoing issues.
  • Assists with insurance authorizations.
  • Assists with setting up new financial programs such as credit card and bank loan programs.
  • Plans and organizes patient access/registration employee training and materials to implement training activities that address front end/access processes at clinic and hospital locations.
  • Develops individual orientation and ongoing training for employees to ensure compliance with consistency, uniformity and understanding of registration process.
  • Facilitates training logistics.
  • Presents necessary information for making decisions, increasing efficiency and effectiveness, and enhancing customer service.
  • . Creates and maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. training procedure manuals, guides, course materials, handouts/visuals, training records, required reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • May be required to work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime during peak periods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Three years of experience in healthcare relating to insurance, billing, registration, claim filing, or collections required
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the healthcare field required.
Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required.

Experience with an EMR system preferred.

Training experience preferred.

Special Physical Demands

Medium work exerting 10 to 25 lbs. of force frequently and 25 to 60 lbs. of force occasionally. While performing the duties of this job the employee is constantly required to sit, stand, walk, push, pull, handle, finger, feel, reach, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to twist at the torso and stoop. The employee is occasionally required to climb ramps/stairs, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, lift from floor to waist, reach at/below shoulder level and overhead. The employee is frequently required to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time Specific vision abilities required by this job include constantly using close vision, color vision, adjust focus, and distance vision. Manual dexterity is needed to operate telephone and keyboard. Must be able to push a patient in wheelchair.


Certification/Licensure

Certification and Licensure

Healthcare revenue cycle related certification or an equivalently designated certification approved by management required within 1 year.
