Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

As an Academic Instructor with us, you will be teaching in a classroom environment to provide diverse students with adult basic education, English language development, special education, and basic subjects including reading, mathematics, and language arts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction in the areas of basic education subjects including career planning, social adjustment, and general life skills information.
  • May instruct conversational English, and ideas and customs in English to students with limited English proficiency.
  • Maintains records including testing, daily inmate/detainee work, attendance and general record keeping.
  • Evaluates and maintains inmate/detainee academic progress.
  • Provides individual tutoring.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's certificate. (Non-Certified applicants must obtain a State or Florida Educator's Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire.)
  • Two (2) years of relevant teaching experience preferred.
    • NOTE for Veterans/spouses ONLY: If applicant is a Veteran or a Veteran's spouse (in Florida), they can apply and receive a Temporary License if they meet the following:
      • Minimum of forty-eight (48) months of military service with an honorable/medical discharge.
      • Minimum of sixty (60) college credits with a 2.5 grade point average.
      • Passing score on a Florida subject area examination.

Facility Overview

The facility provides a full range of correctional services including dental, medical and psychological services, education,and vocational training. Work and educational programs are designed to reduce recidivism and include academic and vocational education, vocational planning, substance abuse education, general counseling, life skills and transition planning.
