Job Summary
Elmhurst University welcomes applications for an Academic Advisor, a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Director, Office of Advising, housed in Academic Affairs. The Academic Advisor works directly with undergraduate students to support a diverse student population at a recently designated Hispanic-Serving Institution that uses a blended advising model. The position assists the Director and Assistant Director in developing and implementing advising programming and activities to offer holistic advising informed by evidence-based practices to enhance student success, retention and graduation rates.
Salary Range $22.00 - $23.00. This is the expected hourly range for this position. The hourly range offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.
Essential Functions

  • Supports undergraduate students and faculty advisors.
  • Provides holistic advising to students by engaging in evidence-based practices that uphold NACADA's statement of core values-respect, inclusivity, professionalism, empowerment, commitment, and caring.
  • Supports and assists undergraduate students with course selection and degree requirements, including completion of the Elmhurst Integrated Curriculum; informs students about academic policies; makes students aware of high-impact practices (e.g., study away, internships, undergraduate research, etc.); articulates academic majors and minors; monitors students' academic records; explains academic standing; and refers students to campus resources for additional assistance.
  • Documents student interactions in Navigate, including maintaining and recording advising appointments, submitting notes and responding to student requests for assistance.
  • Cultivates relationships with campus partners to collaborate on inclusive and equitable practices to support student success, including participating in First-Year Seminar (FYS) and fostering a transfer-friendly environment.
  • Assists the Director and Assistant Director in ongoing Office of Advising responsibilities and programming, including Advising & Registration days, workshops, permission requests and academic standings process.
  • Assists the Director and Assistant Director in reviewing and creating advising resources in collaboration with the School Deans, program directors and faculty.
  • Participates in professional development to foster continuous growth and development as an Advisor.
  • Serves as a resource of preferred advising practices for faculty and other advisors across the university.
  • Serves on committees/working groups as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience advising or mentoring undergraduate students, or similar transferable experience.
  • Ability to effectively engage with postsecondary students of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, team-building and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student success and a proven ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years academic advising experience within higher education (or related experience).
  • Experience working in EAB Navigate, Ellucian Colleague, and Technolutions Slate.
  • Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and/or ILACADA (Illinois Academic Advising Association).

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Duties are expected to be performed onsite with extended hours in January and June.
