The primary role of the Regional Director of Nursing (RDON) is to provide end-to-end operational oversight, clinical direction, and leadership support of the nursing functions, ensuring best-in-class, quality patient care and nursing staff performance. The RDON is accountable to develop and execute strategies that shape the future of nursing practices within the region through strategic planning and leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Direct all nursing operational activity in the region and serve as the nursing executive leading the regional team
  • Analyze, report, and remediate regional performance against business goals, achieving targeted operational and financial outcomes
  • Collaborate with front-end teams, pharmacy operations, and sales departments to effectively achieve shared business objectives
  • Maintain consistent service levels by managing staff, monitoring metrics, adhereing to processes, and managing performance. Lead quality improvement initiatives focusing on patient satisfaction, oversee regional audits, and apply insights for continuous improvements. Create region-specific action plans and implement best practices
  • Guarantee consistent application and adherence to policy, procedure, licensing, and regulatory accreditation requirements. Oversee the utilization, efficiency, and effectiveness of systems that support the delivery of patient care and the achievement of quality patient outcomes
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Learning and Development team to provide direction and support in the development of patient training and care materials. Work with the Clinical Learning and Development team to ensure the creation and delivery of high-quality patient training and care materials
  • Create working relationships and collaboration time with the Regional Vice President of Operations (RVP), Directors of Operation (DOO), and branch General Managers (GM) to achieve shared business goals
  • Ensure proactive and prudent recruitment planning according to market needs, upcoming growth initiatives and expansions using available workforce planning resources Plan recruitment proactively based on market needs, growth initiatives, and expansions
  • Support collaboration of nursing and billing department to ensure timely and accurate nurse billing processes. Ensure coordination between nursing and billing for timely and accurate billing processes
  • Prepares and delivers executive level presentations routinely and as required
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, serving as a subject matter expert
  • Assists in internal and external audits
  • Provide solutions for operational gaps affecting patient care. .Supervise quality improvement processes and tools with Clinical Quality Nurse Directors
  • Collaborate with Quality, Employee Relations, PBP, and/or Compliance departments to ensure proper documentation, investigation into event reports and other issues, resulting in resolution and/or remediation plans
  • Analyzes, evaluate, plans and execute nursing initiatives and strategies
  • Educate staff on nursing processes and company initiatives. Develop benchmarks for nursing programs' efficiency and effectiveness
  • Complete reporting of quality data, research employee/patient grievances and participate in Branch emergencies (actual and planned drills)
  • Maintains and participates in the review of organization-wide policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of quality patient care
  • Prepare periodic reports for management as required
  • Participate in various internal committees as requested
  • Coach, mentor and elevate the nursing organization to deliver and exceed patient/customer expectations
  • Ownership for hiring of nursing management personnel and effective onboarding
  • Effective and efficient performance management
  • Maintain and develop professional competency through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations
  • Position will consist of 50% travel

Required Qualifications:



  • Active Nursing license in the state of practice and other states
  • 5+ years of experience in a related specialty, such as the pharmaceutical industry, home health care, ambulatory infusion, healthcare operations or critical/emergency care
  • 4+ years of experience in leadership and people management required. Experience in home infusion preferred, hospital/home health care/ field based clinical operations acceptable
  • Professional presence, including comfort level providing education to individuals and groups, peers and executives
  • Able to work with a cross-functional team of professionals including dietitians, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, nurses, case managers, discharge planners, physicians, outside nursing agencies, patients, families and caregivers
  • Able to travel as required; potential travel 50%



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Reside in the region of oversight
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills



The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
