HDR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in North Carolina. In the role of Senior Mechanical Designer, we'll count on you to:



  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and mechanical equipment selections.
  • Preparation of design and quantity calculations.
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings, including drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising engineer.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Work independently on projects and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Take responsibility for construction contract administration to include reviews of submittal and RFIs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • REVIT
  • Load Software (Example: TRACE, IES, etc.)
  • Local candidates are preferred
  • *LI-SM1

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
