To oversee the U.S. Gateway operation as well as trade lane, product management, and carrier management as it relates to airfreight transportation in the Americas. This position will manage point-to-point logistics for airfreight transportation from virtually any international airport in the world. Provide airport to airport logistics management solutions that reduce transportation costs, accelerate decision-making and improve communication among all parties in the supply chain.

Selects, trains, and develops a staff of 1 to 7 direct reports. Responsible for a staff of 1 to 40 indirect reports. Manage & coordinate activities of employees engaged in gateway operations and drive cost improvement. Supervises and coordinates all aspects of the gateway operations in the united states and the activities of employees engaged in the operation. Develops, implements and monitors compliance with standard gateway operations procedures and provides subject matter expertise to assist FedEx Trade Networks in developing gateway and transportation expertise to meet financial, operational and service quality objectives. Arranges the movement of freight on behalf of the origin or destination service centers. Develops, implements and monitors trade lane, product management, and carrier management as it relates to airfreight transportation in the Americas. Conducts meetings to provide employees w/ info regarding division/ops; applies consistent admin of disciplinary procedures. Maintains all required reports/paperwork, payroll, perf reviews, mbo & personal record stats accurately through established paperwork guidelines. Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews works, & manages perf in accordance w/org policies, procedures, & perf mgmt. Process. Provides technical product assistance to staff. Ensures cost effectiveness of ops through established control of equipment, utilities, vendors, & supplies. Drives cost through cargo consolidation. Ensures continuous improvement processes to increase efficiencies, reduce waste, & improve performance to our customers. Maintains contact with customers (internal & external) with regard to conditions affecting the service level of area served. Controls movement and activities of all related products to ensure maximum efficiency. Identifies markets to be grown or maintained and develops appropriate business strategies. Ensures compliance with preferred carriers. Establishes service center contact & rapport to maintain awareness of customer business objectives. Interacts with sales team to create opportunity/solutions for new or existing customers. Utilizes customer knowledge to develop additional or new opportunities for defined route. Ensures employees comply with rate and service requirements established by customers. Assists employees in the export department with any questions or situations that arise with airfreight shipments, customer requests, and vendors. Expedites the daily activities of all operation functions ensuring client satisfaction is successfully achieved and company policies adhered to with the goal of maximizing profitability for the company. Works with contracted carriers to develop a pricing strategy that will provide 80% or better rate for use of their services. Ensures consol building process and mawbs creation process is in line with our gateway operating procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree/equivalent in business.
  • Seven (7) years business experience in freight forwarding, transportations, or airline industry required, including previous experience in managing a gateway operation.
  • Industry- related certification (dangerous goods, iac, or iata) a plus. Minimum four (4) years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, & Access required.
  • Solid leadership, negotiation, decision-making, and customer service skills, excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • An advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Expert knowledge of air export gateway operation.
  • Knowledge of us export regulations and tsa.
  • Understanding of airports and world geography.
  • Knowledge of current airfreight pricing structures.
  • Knowledge of airline operating procedures.
  • Understanding of project management and continuous improve methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Air Freight procurement. A background in Global Freight Forwarding and the optimization of a Global Airfreight Carrier portfolio.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.
