Full Time Faculty, Construction Technology and Secondary Career Center

Under the direction of the Director of Construction Technology & Building Sciences, this Construction Faculty member will teach 6-8 credit hours per semester for the Secondary Career Center and 7 -9 hours for traditional construction classes. This role includes serving as a backup instructor for the Director of Construction Technology, Trades and Apprenticeships, teaching construction classes, and assisting with student recruitment and industry partnership development. Additionally, this position will help establish a registered pre-apprenticeship program in construction and/or the trades. The position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality education, fostering relationships with industry partners, and supporting students in their academic and career pursuits.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institutional policy.

Essential Duties

  • Work a minimum of a 40-hour work week, including the assignment of 15 instructional load hours (credit and career credit), curriculum development hours, and 10+ office hours.

  • Oversee curriculum development and ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.

  • Teach construction technology courses as needed, both in secondary career center programs and college-level courses.

  • Serve as a backup instructor for the Director of Construction Technology & Building Sciences.

  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations governing career and technical education programs.

  • Manage required data collection, retention, and reporting for secondary career center programs.

  • Assist with student recruitment efforts, including outreach to local high schools, career fairs, and industry events.

  • Foster and maintain partnerships with construction industry employers to support student internships, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities.

  • Collaborate with internal NWACC departments, including admissions, advising, student services, and workforce development.

  • Organize and participate in professional development activities to stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

  • Support and promote student success through mentorship, advising, and career planning assistance.

  • Manage classroom and lab spaces, ensuring access to appropriate tools, materials, and equipment.

  • Develop and support methods of face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction for Construction Technology and Secondary Career Center Curriculum, including thorough and effective use of NWACC's LMS system.

  • Meet assigned classes, facilitate, and evaluate student learning, submit grades by established deadlines, and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA regulations, including continuing education and evening classes.

  • Participate in the summative and formative faculty evaluation process.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities both on and off campus.

  • Remain current in the academic discipline and with technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.

  • Supervise, monitor, organize, and facilitate the Construction Technology Lab, under the guidance of the Program Director, and assist with student lab time when classes are not being held.

  • Teach classes during day, afternoon, night, and/or weekend.

  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, completion and placement efforts.

  • Coordinate industry certifications and credentialing opportunities for students.

  • Attend college wide meetings, division, and departmental meetings as scheduled.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree (or higher) in Construction Technology, Construction Management, Career & Technical Education, or a related field. In absence of education, years of experience will be considered.

  • At least three years of experience in construction, construction education, or a related field.

  • Experience with curriculum development and instructional delivery in a construction-related program.

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research) certified instructor or Master NCCER Trainer.

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher

  • Five or more years of experience in construction education or industry training programs.

  • Experience developing and maintaining industry partnerships.

  • Knowledge of secondary career center programs and technical education regulations.

  • Experience with student recruitment, advising, and retention strategies.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles, methods, and best practices.

  • Strong understanding of career and technical education (CTE) frameworks and industry certifications.

  • Strong commitment to the community college model and its student body.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.

  • Proficiency in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and student engagement techniques.

  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with industry partners, educators, and community stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of educational compliance requirements, including OSHA, NCCER, and state-level CTE standards.

  • Experience using educational technology, learning management systems (LMS), and student information systems.

  • Commitment to student success and workforce development initiatives.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing industry and educational needs.

Rate of pay: determined by faculty scale placement (education and years of experience)
