This position is responsible for the hands-on product testing and development within a Mechanical Engineering lab environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Build test fixtures for Heat Pump Systems, Combustion and heat transfer equipment; devises, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for test rigs and instrumentation.
- Set up tests for Product Development of complete units and components under operational conditions and as prescribed by applicable UL and ANSI codes to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization and quality control.
- Creates and utilizes LabView datalogging and equipment control hardware and software to collect and analyze data.
- Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method. Tracks records or provides ability to trace documentation.
- Maintains lab equipment, ensuring instrument calibration and coordination of repair and maintenance of equipment both internally or via external vendors so that the lab is fully operational.
- Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies. May provide input on specification revisions.

- Requires mechanical and technical ability
- Experience in heat pump and/or refrigeration systems testing is desired
- Ability to read blueprints and use various types of measuring equipment.
- Computer skills for using lab related software and MS Office.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- 0 to 2 years experience.
- HVAC mechanic experience is a plus.
- Strong data analysis skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills required
- LabView DAQ knowledge a plus
- Credits or experience in combustion, thermo & fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and heat transfer will be useful.
- Must thrive in a creative, team-based environment.
The expected salary range for this position is $72K- $78K yearly. Actual compensation will be dependent upon individual skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws.
