Job Description Summary

Part-time Instructional Assistants in the Department of Education should be retired or former school educators or administrators with a positive demeanor and an eagerness to support licensure and non-licensure education programs, including pre-service teacher education, by supporting university students as they engage with local schools and community spaces for clinical experiences, classroom observations, tutoring, mentoring, service, and other educational programming.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Supports faculty and students during field-based clinical experiences
  • Transports students and faculty to and from local schools and community spaces
  • Supports faculty, as needed, in supervising school visits
  • Serves as an informal mentor to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Offers feedback to faculty about student engagement
  • Fulfills other duties, as needed, such as speaking to classes, attending events, and supporting department initiatives.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to education
  • Prior experience as an educator or administrator in local public schools
  • Valid NC driver's license and good driving record; must be insurable.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to work with students from a diversity of backgrounds and traditionally underrepresented populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with department faculty, staff, and students
  • Intimate knowledge of local schools in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County
