Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
University Communications (UC) is a staff of communication professionals who have primary responsibility for internal and external communications through outlets that include print, broadcast, and electronic media. University Communications is a unit reporting to the Office of the Chancellor. The UC Mission is "to provide external communications through the print, electronic media, web, and other means to increase public awareness, understanding, and support of the University." The employees of University Communications work in these areas: communications/media, creative services, web communications, and marketing. Each area has a unique set of responsibilities and duties, but the staff work as a team to carry out the University Communications' mission. Staff writers are assigned specific beats, or areas of coverage, within the University community, and as such are expected to generate stories from their beats. In addition, stories and other projects are assigned on interest, availability, and workload.understanding and support of the University. The employees of University Communications work in these areas: communications/media, creative services, web communications and marketing. Each area has a unique set of responsibilities and duties, but the staff work as a team to carry out the University Communications mission.
Position Summary
The position strategically captures artistic, creative, and skilled still and motion images producing multimedia storytelling to reflect UNC Greensboro. The position serves as a secondary photographer and secondary videographer/editor. Create critical University images and videos used to communicate with a variety of internal and external audiences including but not limited to prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members. This position requires strong technical skills in video and still photography. This position will concentrate on serving the UNCG News beat which includes social media. This position must have the ability to manage multiple projects at one time and work efficiently under multiple deadlines.

Candidates possessing and/or willing to pursue an FAA and state-issued drone license required.
Minimum Qualifications

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE IN A BROADCAST TELEVISION, RADIO AND EMERGING MEDIA ENVIRONMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in Communications or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Macintosh and PC platforms.
  • Experience driving and transporting sensitive camera equipment.
  • At least one year of experience working in a fast-pased media environment with an emphasis on in-field experience.
  • Field production experience and ability to 42,654 operate video cameras, recorders, editing equipment, and live news gathering platforms.
  • Live on-site and in-studio production experience for broadcast or streaming service is valued but not required.
  • Knowledge of HTML and web design is helpful.
  • Knowledge of After Effects is preferred.
  • Experience with SONY equipment is a plus.

  • FAA and state-issued Drone license is a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the use of Adobe Creative Suite products, including Premiere, Audition, Illustrator, Motion Graphics, Photoshop & Presenter.
  • Experience in studio still photography and field photography. Understanding of both video lighting and electronic flash for location and studio.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical skills including Lightroom, PhotoMechanic, Photoshop skills (Indesign), Premier Pro skills.
  • Digital Asset Management software knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Ability to properly light an interview and/or scene based on the theme of the video.
  • Must be a self-starter, and be able to collaborate and work with a team.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong motivation for continuous learning and skill development.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, an excellent (clean) driving record.
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Must be available to work different shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Must be organized and able to meet tight deadlines.
