Senior Associate - Risk Consulting: Financial Crimes Compliance & Model Validation

Job Summary

RSM is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Associate to join our Risk Consulting practice, specializing in financial crimes compliance and model validation for financial services clients. This role is ideal for professionals with a foundation in audit, risk management, or second-line risk functions and a strong interest in model risk, financial crime compliance, and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to model validation and financial crime risk engagements for banks, asset managers, and other financial institutions
  • Perform testing and technical validation of models (e.g., credit risk, market risk, AML/sanctions, optimization), assessing assumptions, methodologies, and performance monitoring
  • Support assessments of financial crime compliance programs, including sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and KYC processes
  • Apply data analytics and coding skills (e.g., Python, Alteryx) to validate/test models and identify anomalies or weaknesses
  • Work under the supervision of Managers and Partners to deliver high-quality client deliverables
  • Document procedures, findings, and recommendations in clear, well-organized workpapers and reports
  • Communicate effectively with team members and client stakeholders to address project needs
  • Assist in developing insights and solutions that enhance clients' risk management and operational effectiveness
  • Support proposal development and client presentations, as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in audit, risk management, or internal controls in the financial services industry
  • Understanding of second-line risk functions, model risk management frameworks (e.g., SR 11-7, NY DFS 504), and financial crime risk
  • Exposure to validation or testing of models related to credit risk, AML/SAR monitoring, sanctions screening, or optimization
  • Familiarity with financial crime systems such as NICE Actimize, Oracle FCCM, Verafin, or Fircosoft
  • Proficiency in Python, Alteryx, or other analytics tools; experience with SQL, R, or SAS is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams, take direction, and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications in progress or achieved (e.g., CPA, CAMS, FRM, CFA)
  • Prior experience in public accounting, consulting, or internal risk/audit function
  • Experience presenting findings to clients or internal committees

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $54 - $82 per hour
