What You'll Do:

The Histotechnologist demonstrates competency to perform basic and complex histology testing including fixation, grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, H & E staining, special staining, immunofluorescence, and IHC staining. These processes support the transformation of fresh tissue specimens into microscopic slides to provide the pathologist data for diagnosis. The Histotechnologist prepares fresh tissue to be frozen to assist the Pathologist with the surgical pathology consultation in a stat environment. They participate in quality control monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting. The Histotechnologist coordinates and prioritizes workflow to ensure timely testing. Helps to problem-solve cases for Pathologists and other staff members as needed. Our Histology Laboratory performs high complexity testing as specified by CLIA-88.

What's Available:

  • Fulltime - 80 hours biweekly (1.0 FTE)

  • These is eight and eighty (8 and 80); paid time and one-half the regular rate for all hours worked over eight in any workday and eighty hours in the fourteen-day period.

What You'll Need:

  • Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. A copy of the applicant's/employee's transcript as confirmation of the education requirement must be provided at time of hire.

  • 2 years of healthcare, laboratory, or research experience

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histology Technician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification
