The Volunteer Services Professional is a seasoned expert with a strong understanding of both the theory and practical application of volunteer management. This individual independently executes a full range of responsibilities, leveraging extensive knowledge of the field to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
In this role, the Volunteer Services Professional is responsible for planning, organizing, training, and supervising volunteers and volunteer programs. They collaborate with UCDH departments and units to assess needs and identify opportunities where volunteers can provide meaningful support.
Key responsibilities include coordinating departmental volunteer needs, leading recruitment efforts, and overseeing orientation, training, and supervision. The Volunteer Services Professional ensures ongoing support for assigned units, fostering a positive and productive volunteer experience. Additionally, they drive continuous program development, implementing innovative volunteer initiatives that enhance engagement and impact.
The primary goal of this role is to cultivate strong, mutually beneficial partnerships between volunteers and the departments they serve, ensuring a rewarding and effective volunteer experience for all.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Experience in a health care institution.
- Experience managing volunteers in a health care setting.
- Experience in a dynamic and fast-paced office and health care setting.
- Solid knowledge of volunteer services best practices
- Knowledge of relevant internal policies and external regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and influence others.
- Ability to develop and manage a program or project. (e.g., objectives, team, tasks, deliverables, timelines, hours, costs).
- Solid interpersonal skills to maintain positive and productive relationships.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to evaluate issues and resolve problems.

- Ability to see well enough to accurately identify names and numbers on handwritten and typewritten forms on a computer screen; hear well enough to take information on telephone; legible writing and printing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills working with a diverse workforce (i.e. staff, faculty, students and volunteers), in an often time sensitive environment.
- Computer skills to effectively use MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Electronic Mail, Invision, Samaritan, and Internet search tools.
- Accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to successfully handle multiple projects at one time.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Be able to use standard office equipment (calculator, copy, scanner and fax machines, multi-line telephone and voicemail systems)
- Ability to discern emergent need for responding to items or issues arising.
- Knowledge of policies relating to release of information and confidentiality.
- Ability to learn and use robust tracking software
