Summary of Job Duties:UA Little Rock's Center for Integrative Nanotechnology Sciences (Nano Center) invites applications for the position of postdoctoral fellow (12-month/provisional). We are seeking a highly motivated and hard-working material Scientist whose project work will contribute to an ongoing federally-funded research award's work scope. This is a fixed-term appointment supported by our external sponsor's awarded budget, the employee's satisfactory performance on the job, and the continued availability of funding. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Ph.D. in applied science/applied physics or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Strong chemistry/physics background with a focus on biomaterials;
  • Knowledge in the areas of surface science and characterization;
  • Experience in synthesis of nanomaterials (organic and inorganic), nanocomposites as well as polymeric materials;
  • Experience in the use of complex nanocomposite for tissue regeneration.
  • Experience with a wide range of analytical characterization tools that include electron microscopy, spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis, etc;
  • Experience in polymer research;
  • Experience using and interpreting data collected over the course of experimentation and characterization of various nanocomposite materials.
  • Experience in nano catalysts for gas and liquid reactions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out research assignments under the direction of the Director or his designee(s);
  • Synthesize nanomaterials, nanocatalysts and polymeric nanocomposites;
  • Perform analytical characterization of various nanosized materials and composites based on electron microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and other similar techniques;
  • Perform surface modification of nanostructural systems, attach bio-chemical agents, and observe the controlled release over time; the requirements will include the ability to synthesize complex nanostructural composite materials, modify their structures to meet the required properties, and characterize and analyze the outcomes of the reactions;
  • Determine the release profiles of active molecules from various surfaces based on optical absorption and other similar procedures;
  • Develop manufacturing approaches to various devices formed of polymeric nanocomposites;
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment;
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data;
  • Present research summaries and data in oral and written formats;
  • Prepare data for publication, and publication records.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to carry out research assignments under the direction of the Director or his designee(s);
  • Ability to synthesize nanomaterials/catalysts, and polymeric nanocomposites;
  • Ability to perform analytical characterization of various nanosized materials and composites based on electron microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and other similar techniques;
  • Ability to conjugate biological systems to various nanostructural materials and observe the controlled release over time; the requirements will include the ability to synthesize complex nanostructural composite materials, modify their structures to meet the required properties, and characterize and analyze the outcomes of the reactions;
  • Ability to perform catalytic reactions using various nanostructural systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data;
  • Ability and knowledge to determine the release profiles of active molecules from various surfaces based on optical absorption and other similar procedures;
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment;
  • Ability to present research summaries and data in oral and written formats;
  • Experience in preparing data for publication, and a publication record.
