General Function:

The Associate Chemist will support the day to day operations in the chemistry lab and contribute to the Ultra Optics organization by assisting in developing coatings and other product offerings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Perform various tasks in the coating laboratory and production area at an acceptable level:
  • Perform chemistry operations on specified equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform basic/routine tests on assigned equipment.
  • Learn and maintain competence to mix existing coatings.
  • Carry out work to prepare coating formulation according to the mentor's instructions.
  • Assist in in data collection and analysis for the coatings.
  • Document, validate and be accountable for quality and consistency of coating preparation.
  • Document and keep current S.O.P.s for coating production, quality and all changes to coating validation procedures.
  • Research and develop future coatings and willingly assist with diagnosing and solving out of the ordinary coating issues that may arise with customers.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean and organized condition.
  • Understands and follows all company and manufacturer's policies and procedures and assures compliance of all attendance & safety rules and regulations. Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and HIPAA protected information.
  • Willingly assists others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines or maintain an even workload. Cooperates with other coworkers and demonstrates a good attitude.
  • Performs an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or other related degree.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and material science.
  • Proficient in various laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to analyze data, trends, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in a laboratory environment preferred.

Pay Range: 59,278.21-77,892.10

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first-class total rewards package. Benefits may include health care, retirement savings, paid time off/vacation, and various employee discounts.
