Overview

The HIPAA Privacy Analyst investigates potential privacy breaches and noncompliance with Sentara HIPAA policies. The analyst is responsible for implementing and administering all aspects of Sentara's Privacy policies and procedures and helping to ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, Information Blocking and other federal and state mandated privacy requirements. Participates in other duties as necessary or as assigned.

- In-depth knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules, the HITECH Act, Information Blocking Rules and state data breach laws and regulations required.
- strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required, with the ability to collaborate with all levels within the organization.
- Excellent customer service, analytical, and investigative skills required.
- High level of initiative, self-direction, emotional intelligence, accountability, and confidentiality required.
- Working knowledge of the HIPAA Security Rule beneficial.
-Experience in auditing, investigating and processing regulatory violations, as well as conducting investigative interviews strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's Level Degree
Certification/Licensure
  • No specific certification or licensure requirements
Experience
  • 2 years minimum Privacy Analyst
  • Investigative experience
  • HIPAA Privacy knowledge
  • HITECH Act knowledge
  • Information Blocking Rules knowledge
  • Knowledge of state data breach laws and regulations required
  • Ability to be agile/work in a fast pace, working with case files, good detective skills/reasoning
  • Prior working experience of Insurance Claims
  • Ability to triage a customer service call, confident customer service skills
  • Position is hybrid, but a more flexible work schedule will be considered
