This posting will establish and maintain a pool of part-time lecturers with experience teaching Anthropology courses in designated fields of the discipline, which may include specializations in areas such as Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, or courses within their area of expertise, for the Department of Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. We seek candidates who can teach core undergraduate courses including Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Human Evolution, Introduction to Archaeology, World Prehistory, Lost Worlds and Crystal Skulls, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and an upper-division required university core course in cultural diversity. By submitting your application, you will become part of an applicant pool. Candidates hired from this pool will fill temporary, non-tenure track positions and will teach no more than twocourses per semester. Appointments will be part-time (less than 50%) and will be made semester-by-semester, depending on the needs of the department and subject to budgetary approval. Therefore, this posting does not necessarily reflect a current open position. The Department of Anthropology will contact you if there is an opening that suits your qualifications.

Working Faculty Title

What you will do:



  • Teach one to several classes a year, including core undergraduate classes in Biological Anthropology and Archaeology and possibly upper-division electives in the fields of Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology;
  • Prepare lectures and deliver them to students
  • Grade student assignments
  • Supervise graduate students teaching lab sections of Introduction to Biological Anthropology as relevant


Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Master's degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, and/or Cultural Anthropology.


Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)



  • PhD in Anthropology or related field.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Facility with online course management platforms such as Canvas.
  • Experience/interest in using engaged/experiential learning methods to reach a highly diverse undergraduate student population with many first-generation students.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Knowledge of the fields of Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, and/or Cultural Anthropology, with a particular focus on subjects such as archaeological methods, human evolution, and human anatomy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills appropriate for teaching college students
  • Ability to effectively communicate key principles and methods in archaeology, biological anthropology , or cultural anthropology
  • Ability to teach lecture-based classes and provide student feedback
  • Ability to supervise graduate students teaching lab section as relevant (if hired to teach Introduction to Biological Anthropology)
  • Ability to teach online if required.
  • Ability to teach lecture-based classes and provide student feedback


Conditions of Employment



  • If hired to teach in-person sections of these courses, this position requires an onsite presence on campus for lectures

  • The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work;

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $1,615 per credit hour (lower division), $1,645 per credit hour (upper division and New Directions courses), or $1,808 per credit hour (graduate level).

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
