The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Histotechnologist ( HTL), BS degree in related biological science field. 5 years experience as a histotechnologist. Supervisory skills.
Position Summary
This position is for a Laboratory Manager II in the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center's Histopathology Lab. This position will be responsible for the general running and maintenance of the lab, including ordering supplies, managing maintenance for laboratory instrumentation, billing, data management, safety certifications for laboratory personnel, Hazardous Waste management and updating and creating SOPs for new equipment and laboratory certification. This person will supervise 2 technicians, students (graduate, undergraduates, and/or work-study) and visiting scientists in the histology laboratory, and will also work with students and other collaborators to help them with proper sample collection and preparation for histology processing and prioritizing projects in the laboratory to assure timely completion.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Adhere to UGA policy and procedures for procuring supplies.
  • Hazardous waste documentation, tracking of billing, and managing equipment maintenance. Routine and special histochemical staining along with IHC development and validation.
  • Knowledge of UGA Ordering systems
