East Carolina University is a research doctoral intensive institution with over 100 undergraduate degree programs, 80 master's degree programs, and 18 doctoral programs. The College of Health and Human Performance is home to 100 faculty, the departments of Health Education and Promotion, Kinesiology, Recreation and Leisure Studies; and the Human Performance Laboratory and the
ROTC program. There are excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research both within the College and across the University.
The position is a clinical research position within the Human Performance Lab (
HPL), and will be fully funded by grant funding from a faculty member assigned to that group, and will contribute to the HPL's mission of investigating the beneficial effects of exercise on human health during and after pregnancy. |
Job Duties |
This position will be funded by the
NIH-R01 grant. The projects funded by these grants study the influence of exercise during pregnancy on maternal and infant/child health. The projects have been slowed by
COVID, but are now ramping up with the need to accelerate recruitment, testing, and exercise training of the subjects in order to meet numbers consistent with pre-
COVID goals.
Specifically, the employee will assist in the following under the direction of Linda May, Ph.D.
-The employee will perform adult and pediatric phlebotomy and process the blood samples.
-The employee will assist in storing and tracking the tissue samples-.
-The employee will assist with the study measurements on pregnant participants, as well as the postpartum women and their infants.
-The employee will learn the procedures needed to conduct proper exercise training (both resistance and endurance). This involves being trained and certified by the current staff.
-The employee will oversee and interact directly with the human subjects during exercise training which will take place in the Human Performance Laboratory (
HPL). Direct interaction is required to ensure the proper exercise loads and techniques are being performed and data is gathered by the employee during the exercise sessions.
-The employee will assist with scheduling participants for the study sessions.
-The employee will assist with the recruitment and retention of study participants.
-The employee will be responsible for data entry |
