Post-Doctoral Associate

Summary of Position:
The successful candidate will engineer natural product biosynthetic pathways and isolate compounds from engineered strains.

Essential and Other Functions:
65% - Analytical chemistry: isolation and structure determination of natural products.
20% - Molecular biology: plasmid construction and strain engineering.
10% - Writing: communicating results.
5% - Chemical safety: ensuring a safe working environment in the lab.

Restrictions:
Limited to a period of three years up to five, depending on training needs. The individual may be immediately post-degree or returning for additional training, updating, and retooling. Limited to fields for which post-degree training is necessary for career entry. Post-doctoral associates cannot be appointed on sponsored institutional training grants, sponsored individual fellowship or training awards. Post-doctoral associates are University of Minnesota employees. They are receiving additional training while also performing services for the University, for which they are compensated.
Note: These are not positions to which permanent residency can be granted for international appointees.

Essential Qualifications
Applicants require a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
Several years experience purifying and determining the structure of new natural products.
Strong track record of independent publications.

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.

Pay Range: $61,008 - $61,008; depending on education/qualifications/experience
