JOB TITLE - Indirect Tax Staff Accountant Use Tax
JOB SUMMARY
Provide indirect tax subject matter expertise to Matheson
Tri-Gas on tax technology initiatives. Specifically, this person will work with
members of the Indirect Tax Team here at Matheson and play an important role in
indirect tax improvement and compliance initiatives. This candidate will join our Indirect Tax
group assisting Matheson with compliance, controversy, and numerous other
projects for various Indirect Taxes, including but not limited to sales &
use tax, property tax, propane and excise taxes.
This position will also work on internal Tax Department
compliance initiatives including tax software implementations and business
license filings. As such, the ideal candidate must be able to work well with
cross-functional teams and be able to effectively communicate tax concepts to
non-tax professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Work and liaise with customers to ensure proper exemption documentation is provided on their purchases from Matheson.
Review and approve sales tax exemption certificates from Matheson customers in the Vertex software.
Lead campaigns to gather expired certificates in various states and jurisdictions, annually based on expiration date/period.
Reconcile G/L accounts related to indirect taxes.
Work with outside consultants as needed on technology, compliance or improvement projects.
Adhere to current policies and procedures.
Seek opportunities to improve our internal tax processes, optimize costs and minimize risk.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of multi-state US sales and use taxes preferred.
Experience with Vertex software, and their suite of related products, and how they are utilized in the sales tax compliance process. (Plus)
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (or relevant experience).
1-2+ years of professional tax experience, preferably within a large professional service or corporate tax environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong research skills and experience with research software.
Strong work ethic, time management and organization skills.
Ability to work independently or as a team member
