JOB SUMMARY - Property Tax Manager
Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc. is seeking an experienced and
proactive Property Tax Manager to lead our property tax function. This
individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of property tax
compliance, including filings, protests, audits, payments, and process
improvements. This is a key leadership role within the Tax Department,
requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to
collaborate across internal departments and with external consultants.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience working
with a property tax compliance/management system and possess a deep
understanding of Texas and multi-state property tax requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the full property tax lifecycle, including data collection, return preparation, assessment review, appeals, and timely payments.
Work with outside consultants to maintain and optimize their property tax management system to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Assist in preparing data for outside consultant's tax return preparation and review of property tax returns.
Analyze assessments and coordinate property tax protests, appeals, and audit defense strategies.
Develop annual property tax budgets and forecasts; monitor and report variances.
Serve as the primary contact for internal business units, local tax authorities, and third-party consultants.
Ensure timely reconciliation of property tax accruals and general ledger accounts.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the overall efficiency of the property tax function.
Monitor legislative changes and assess impact on the company's property tax liability.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 6-8 years of experience in property tax, with increasing responsibility.
Strong working knowledge of a property tax management compliance system, like PTMS, is preferred.
Experience managing property tax for a large, multi-state organization.
In-depth knowledge of Texas property tax laws and practices.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals.
High level of integrity and discretion with confidential information.

Work Experience
7-9 years Preferred - Working with fixed asset systems (FAS)
and maintaining asset lists for the purpose of property tax reporting and
compliance. Knowledge of valuation and depreciation to various asset classes.
1-3 years Preferred - Property tax audits and settlements.
1-2 years Preferred - PTMS software suite.
4-6 years Preferred - Ensure property assessed is reviewed
and timely protested and appealed. Knowledge of the protest process in various
states and municipalities. 1-3 years Preferred - Working with compliance teams to
ensure property is rendered in a timely fashion.
