In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Assistant Civil Engineer, or must have taken, passed and be reachable on the open competitive civil service list for examination number 5015, or be eligible under the 55a program.

Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit plays a vital role in the development, management, and operation of the City's municipal parking infrastructure. The unit is responsible for managing 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields across the city. We oversee structural inspections, capital projects, contract administration, and sustainability initiatives at parking facilities.

We are seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to support the planning, design, maintenance, and inspection of municipal parking facilities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to carry out the following responsibilities:

-Prepare engineering cost estimates, project scopes, contracts, and technical specifications.
-Perform structural and general inspections of parking garages and parking fields.
-Monitor and assess the condition of parking structures to support ongoing operations and capital planning.
-Conduct surveys and write detailed engineering reports to support repair and improvement projects.
-Conduct study and analysis of parking occupancy & rates.
-Review contracts and ensure contract compliance.
-Prepare AutoCAD drawings and design documents for new and existing facilities.
-Design signages and prepare plans for the installation of traffic control devices.
-Assist in sustainability projects such as solar canopy and the expansion of EV charging stations by reviewing proposals, construction plans, and specifications.
-Monitor the operations of EV chargers to ensure performance and user accessibility.
-Provide support work for other sustainability initiatives, green infrastructure, and green technology related to parking.
-Coordinate with other units, contractor, and/or other agencies.
-Perform related work to support the safety and continued operation of municipal parking facilities.

Hours/Shift:35 Hrs. /M-F/7am-3pm

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This licensee must be maintained throughout duration of appointment in this position. .

ASSISTANT CIVIL ENGINEER - 20210

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.

Preferred Skills

-Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with civil/structural design software.
-Strong foundation in civil and structural engineering principles.
-Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and city/state construction standards.
-Strong written and verbal communications skills for report writing and stakeholder coordination.
-Experience or interest in sustainability and transportation infrastructure.
-Detail oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
