WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Come join Waukesha County's Department of Public Works Fleet Division as a Mechanic.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience performing preventive maintenance and major repair work on a variety of vehicles, such as but not limited to automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers, graders, mowers, small engines, and other equipment.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm with occasional overtime hours on nights, weekends, and at odd hours when emergency conditions require such duty.

The 2025 starting hourly rate range is $28.03 to $32.56 (full range extends to $37.09).

Prior to hiring, the final candidate is required to pass work/education/certification reference(s), a criminal background and driver's license check,and a Physical Exam consisting of a hearing test, physical, DOT drug test, musculoskeletal evaluation, vision test, and TB assessment.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Three (3) years of experience in the major overhaul and repair of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.
3. Recognized post high school training directly in mechanical maintenance may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to one (1) year's work experience.
4. Valid driver's license.
5. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrake endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
