GIS technician

JMT Technology Group, a leading geospatial and information technology services and solutions provider, has an opening for a GIS Technician. Responsible for collecting, creating, and editing GIS data, preparing and updating maps and outputs of GIS datasets, and using applications and tools to develop new data outputs. Has experience creating and maintaining data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets source data files and translates information into GIS-readable formats.
• Uses Desktop Esri apps to edit and maintain vector GIS data in various formats (i.e., file geodatabase, SDE, Portal, shapefile, and published map services).
• Performs edits to GIS data in a versioned database (branch and traditional) and reconciles/posts edits with the default/parent version resolving possible conflicts.
• Performs updates to ArcGIS Online/Portal platform applications including Story Maps, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Survey 123.
• Performs routine data validation and QA/QC checks to ensure GIS data integrity.
• Understands and processes data and map requests to produce quality hard and soft copy map deliverables.
• Travels to project locations to perform field data collection and verification using GPS and other mobile data collection tools (up to 15%).
• Performs tasks under the direction of a project or task manager and regularly reports progress on assigned work.
• Participates in workshops, training, or vendor presentations involving GIS technology, products, and upgrades.

• Knowledge of GIS concepts and analytical techniques, including geospatial data creation, conversion, manipulation, and analysis.
• Knowledge of cartographic standards and principles to develop quality cartographic products for internal and external customers.
• An understanding of how ESRI applications and GIS technologies are used to solve client challenges.
• Ability to plan, organize, and execute GIS-related tasks efficiently while meeting customer requirements.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate and work collaboratively and effectively with project team members.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a general office environment. It is generally sedentary but may require occasional standing and walking. The lighting and temperature are adequate, and no hazardous or unpleasant conditions are caused by noise, dust, etc. Field work may be required to collect or verify existing conditions of data being obtained or maintained.
