SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation: We offer our independent contractors competitive compensation that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The compensation rate for this contract position is $33.00 per hour.

Position Description: The Adult Math Instructor delivers industry-contextualized math instruction to adult learners, integrating real-world applications to enhance comprehension and engagement. Manages the classroom environment effectively and collaborates using the I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) model to co-teach and support student success.

Required: Bachelor's degree, Minimum of three years of teaching experience in adult education.

Preferred: Master's and/or graduate certificate in adult education. Experience with CASAS test, LACES database.

Required License/Certification: N/A

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (32 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours)

Length of Assignment: 16 weeks (06/06/2025 - 07/18/2025)

Expected Contributions: Program



  • Utilize the IBEST model to co-teach an industry math course to adult students, including basic numeracy and math activities that are hands-on with industry tools.
  • Collaborate with industry instructors and the instructional manager to maintain and update the curriculum
  • Utilize various teaching methods such as hands-on experiential exercises, lecture, group work, projects, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Manager to deliver instructional interventions based on student assessment results
  • Provide individualized guidance and coaching to students as needed
  • Manage the classroom and create an effective learning environment
  • Administer testing and assessments as needed
  • Update LACES and/or other instructional databases as needed.

Reports to: Instructional Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings off-site
