Hill International is seeking a Construction Inspector - MEP in Austin, Texas



  • Conduct daily observation of construction work for compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, Requests for Information (RFI's), Change Orders, and approved submittals and shop drawings. Issue Observation Reports noting conditions of non-compliance, with proper reference to detailed drawings and specifications sections. Project portfolio: 1 project, average value $10M-$50M
  • Attend early morning, evening, or after-hours installations (ex: concrete pours) requiring owner representation. Flexible hours required for construction observations.
  • Maintain and organize on-site project documentation, including inspection and test reports, RFI's, Architect's Supplemental Instructions (ASI's) documents, project change control documents, etc.
  • Coordinate and monitor material testing, air balance testing, and systems testing. Monitor Commissioning process, including equipment testing, functional performance tests and building integration of inter-related systems. Monitor deficiency logs to assure follow up of re-testing and system performance.
  • Assist the Project Manager (PM) and/or Construction Manager (CM) in resolving construction issues involving civil, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical issues.. [I don't believe we (as inspectors ) issue directives to the contractor.]
  • Attend Pre-Construction meetings and regular onsite construction meetings. Attend and provide input at pre-installation meetings between contractor and subcontractors prior to start of work involving assemblies or materials affecting mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems, as required by specifications.
  • Coordinate with Owner facilities and operations personnel when utility outages, noise control, traffic control or security are required by the work. Attend pre-outage planning meetings.
  • Monitor project close-out procedures, including O&M manuals, as-builts, punch lists, and warranty walk-through. Issue punch lists for above ceiling, open wall and Substantial Completion inspections, and revisit to confirm completion of deficiencies.
  • Be familiar with and stay current in Codes and Regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, and any special requirements of the building type (e.g., healthcare, research labs, special campus project types etc.)
  • Interface with and provide support to users and Owner operations, architects, engineers, contractors, utilities, regulatory agencies to assist with resolution of conflicts.


  • 10 - 15 years of experience.
  • Experience as a mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing foreman.
  • Experience in healthcare and/or research projects is preferred, but not required.
  • ICC Certified (by discipline - plumber, electrical) is preferred, but not required.
