Job Description:

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will have a combination of strong accounting, financial reporting, planning and SOX control experience combined with systems, technology, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities



  • Leads the preparation of the company's internal and corporate reporting including the legal entity consolidation, and segment reporting
  • Leads the preparation and submission of the company's statutory reporting and interacts with regulators
  • Plays a strong role in financial planning & analysis activities including the annual planning and budgeting process engaging in regular interaction with the senior leadership team
  • Manages the financial reporting and Budgeting teams while coordinating with other areas of the finance team to complete the financial statements for each close
  • Obtains an in depth understanding of the operations of the PMA businesses and translates our financial results into actionable strategies for the senior leaders of the company
  • Builds relationships with our parent and affiliated company financial teams to share best practices and processes
  • Ensures that our processes and controls are operating effectively and are regularly updated to mitigate risk, including SOX compliance requirements
  • Takes a leadership role in the coordination and execution of internal and external audit requests
  • Ensures the timeliness and accuracy of all journal entries and that all reconciliations are performed as scheduled and designed
  • Identifies and executes development opportunities and plans for team members
  • Coordinates general ledger responsibilities for our business segment, including training, upgrades, testing and company, user and account changes
  • Demonstrates commitment to Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and applies knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Ten to fifteen years accounting/finance related experience
  • Prior experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry strongly desired
  • Experience with: financial reporting & associated systems; developing & executing internal controls, auditing, corporate finance and budgeting & planning experience are all desired
  • Experience implementing and maintaining a high-performance culture built on excellence, accountability and trust. Ability to drive performance and cultivate team development
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with functional peers in other departments within the organization
  • Ability to analyze and propose solutions to business challenges and problems
  • Ability to prioritize and organize
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills -- able to communicate financial matters to non-financial management and staff in a concise, informative manner
  • Ability to identify potential problem areas and formulate suggested solutions
  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively, knowing when to involve others in the evaluation and decision making process
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of management
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access
