Performs routine clerical duties according to prescribed procedures and methods. Work may include filing, verifying, sorting, typing and related duties with instruction being given for all new assignments.

About the Department and/or College

The Natural Science Research Laboratory (NSRL) is a division of the Museum of Texas Tech University committed to the mission of building and preserving a library of our planet's natural heritage for education and research purposes. The NSRL has been recognized as a leader in the development and use of innovative methodologies for biological collections care and data management.

Major/Essential Functions

Insect identification, specimen curation, and biodiversity data management.

Required Qualifications

Completion of high school or the equivalent with no experience. This is an entry level position.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in areas related to entomology and two years of experience collecting, curating, identifying, and databasing insect specimens. Familiarity and experience with biodiversity data standards and management.
  • Experience using imaging systems.
  • Ability to present their work to the public.

Occasional Duties


  • Preparing (mounting and labeling), identifying (at least to family level) and databasing specimens collected at the property.
  • Report on findings.
