Company Overview

Since 1912, Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group, Inc, has provided comprehensive electrical construction services to clients throughout the western U.S. Sturgeon Electric has two divisions, offering both power line construction and commercial/industrial electrical construction, making it a full-service electrical provider.

The Sr Preconstruction Manager will lead conceptual estimating efforts to produce accurate electrical construction cost budgets and estimates, offer expertise and raise concerns and considerations to improve installation and performance of facility systems and support the Company's project planning goals and initiatives by applying expertise in estimating and cost management. The Sr Preconstruction Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering multiple projects, developing innovative ways of applying preconstruction specialty services to address client needs and for proposing and for implementing ideas for continuous improvement of project planning services.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare cost models for early design concepts
  • Derive meaningful cost data from historical cost data, relevant benchmarked projects and assumptions and project-specific factors
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of technology systems including historical cost-tracking and benchmarking systems, estimating systems based on models and assemblies and the use of virtual design and construction (BM) in planning activities
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver multiple projects
  • Develop expertise and leadership in specialty project planning services: value analysis, life cycle costing, constructability analysis, alternatives analysis, LEED, regional market cost factoring, work scope definition and integration of construction scheduling factors into the cost of the work
  • Understand requirements of project teams and participate in collaborative problem-solving
  • Develop innovative ways of applying preconstruction specialty services to address client needs
  • Ensure accuracy of cost estimate data both in care taken with own work and auditing and supervision work of others
  • Propose and implement ideas for continuous improvement of project planning services
  • Mentor others within the group and provide estimating and preconstruction services for project teams throughout the company
  • Collaborate with internal and external project teams
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of conceptual estimating, cost engineering and modeling experience
Minimum 4 years of recent conceptual estimating experience of projects $1.0 million and larger
Actual experience in electrical project estimating
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Solid knowledge of building systems

Advanced work planning skills - ability to plan and prioritize individual and team contributions

Advanced time management skills - ability to successfully balance multiple projects while providing on-demand services

Strong communication skills

Solid mathematical and analytical skill

Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor and perform well under project constraints and deadlines

Excellent detail orientation skills - ability to successfully ensure accuracy of cost estimate data of own work, and when auditing and supervising work of others

Experience leading estimating teams at various stages of design

  • Salary $143,000- $165,000/year
    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
