Essential Job Duties
The Hawkes lab studies how fungi living in plant roots can mediate plant traits such as stress tolerance and resource acquisition. The purpose of this position is to carry out experiments testing how plant-fungal interactions affect plant access to soil nutrients. Day-to-day tasks will include culturing fungi; setup, monitoring, and harvest of greenhouse and growth chamber experiments; post-harvest sample processing and nutrient measurements; optimization of related methods; and support tasks for the work such as ordering supplies, training student assistants, and shipping samples to collaborators.
