Essential Job Duties
Step Into Leadership and Make a Daily Impact at NC State!

Are you a hands-on leader who's passionate about teamwork, excellence, and creating clean, welcoming spaces? NC State University's Environmental Services team is looking for a Senior Crew Leader who's ready to lead with purpose and pride.
In this key role, you'll take charge of after-hours operations in Region 4, coordinating event setups, overseeing floor care, and making sure our campus buildings-from classrooms to research labs-stay spotless, safe, and fully functional. You'll guide a dedicated team, keep things running smoothly behind the scenes, and be the go-to person when quick thinking and smart problem-solving are needed.

This role demands strong communication skills-the ability to effectively interact with supervisors and the public, understanding both verbal and written instructions for all assignments. It also requires the physical capacity to occasionally lift up to 90 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations, and a consistent ability to follow all directions.
This isn't just another job-it's a chance to lead with impact and be part of a collaborative team that keeps NC State running strong, day and night.
What You'll Be Doing:

  • Keep daily operations moving by coordinating projects and ensuring everything gets done on time and to the highest standard
  • Lead your team with clear direction-assigning work orders in AiM, tracking progress, and making sure updates are accurate and timely
  • Regularly walk the buildings you're responsible for-spotting issues, reporting conditions, and keeping leadership in the loop
  • Be a mentor-train your team on safe work practices, support them during inclement weather responses, and guide special project execution
  • Take the lead in building emergencies-ensuring safety protocols are followed and the team responds with confidence
  • Manage supplies and equipment-using AiM and MarketPlace to keep everything stocked, organized, and accounted for
  • Coordinate transportation for staff and materials, and step in with smart reassignments to keep operations covered
  • Report equipment issues, manage key control, and make sure departmental procedures (SOPs) are followed
  • Host safety briefings, assign project teams, and keep everyone focused on departmental goals
  • Handle injury reports and ensure anyone who needs medical attention gets it quickly, with proper documentation
  • Assist with team scheduling and job assignments to meet shifting needs across campus

If you're ready to lead a hardworking crew, grow in your career, and help shape a cleaner, safer NC State-we'd love to hear from you.
Apply now and be part of the team that keeps the Wolfpack campus shining every single day!
Other Responsibilities

  • You'll play a vital role in keeping the University running, even during challenging times. As essential personnel, you may be called in during severe weather-even when the University is closed-and may assist with snow and ice removal to help keep campus safe and accessible.
  • You'll bring hands-on experience with a variety of cleaning and floor care equipment-from auto scrubbers and burnishers to carpet extractors, pressure washers, Kaivacs, and more. Your know-how in applying floor finishes, strippers, and maintainers will be a key part of keeping our spaces spotless and polished.
  • Collaboration is a big part of the job-you'll work closely with multiple zone managers, help foster a strong sense of teamwork across departments, and even recommend team members for recognition or advancement when you see great work happening.
  • And of course, you'll be ready to jump in wherever needed, taking on other duties as assigned to support the team and keep operations running smoothly.
