Job Description Rockwell Automation's AI Center of Excellence in Austin Texas has a position available for a creative data scientist with strong software development background. You are expected to design, develop, and deploy efficient machine learning algorithms that enable the use of computer vision in closed loop operation for time-sensitive applications. You will be reporting to the Director, Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy end-to-end AI solutions and architectures (including data extraction, algorithm development, control system integration, and MLOps).
- Create and execute required test scenarios/plans to ensure complete testing of AI solution and its components
- Architect AI solution for integration with real-time control loop in Industrial Automation applications.
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to ensure alignment of AI architecture with business priorities
- Proactively monitor industry trends and identify opportunities to implement new technologies
- Help create a culture of openness, honesty, and transparency
- Build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders across the organization
- Strong knowledge of computer vision fundamentals and modern deep learning techniques for vision applications (CNNs, transformers, object detection, segmentation)
- Solid understanding of mathematical concepts underlying computer vision (linear algebra, probability, optimization)
- Experience with at least one deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch
- Programming proficiency with Python, and familiarity with JavaScript
- Experience with OpenCV and image processing techniques
- Enthusiasm toward learning new technologies is a must
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields with a strong focus on AI and deep learning.
- Typically requires minimum 5 years relevant experience.
- Experience with vision transformer architectures (ViT, DETR, Swin)
- Familiarity with foundation models and zero/few-shot learning for vision tasks
- Experience with Django, Celery, React, RTK, SQL, NoSQL
- Knowledge of MLOps and model deployment pipelines
- Experience with automation applications (PLC, HMI, SCADA)
- Experience with cloud solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS) and ML services
- Experience with edge deployment for computer vision (e.g., Nvidia Orin/Jetson, Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
- Understanding of performance optimization techniques for computer vision models on resource-constrained platforms
- Must be experienced in deploying machine learning models to edge platforms.
