Job Description

Pay Range $21.30 to $25.10 per hour

Overview:Under general supervision, the Benefits Assistant I serves as the primary point of contact in the Benefits Department. This role is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the company's benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life and AD&D, flexible spending accounts, and the wellness program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to a high volume of telephone inquiries regarding general benefits questions, researching information and providing responses verbally or in writing as necessary.
  • Audit and review benefits applications.
  • Act as a liaison between benefits administration staff, carriers, vendors and Foster Farms Team Members.
  • Verify and update Team Member records; maintain benefits information in Team Member files; investigate, analyze, and resolve a wide range of routine benefits issues.
  • Assist with the preparation of benefits open enrollment, including the design and preparation of benefit materials and literature; organize, maintain, and update benefits records.
  • Verify, compile, and record statistical and narrative information for the preparation of reports and records using word and excel; prepare correspondence, records, and reports based on data obtained from various sources; complete routine benefit surveys.
  • Participate in audits to verify the accuracy of eligibility/financial reports between Foster Farms and Vendor records.
  • Review, verify, and respond to valid benefits-related court orders issued by various government agencies.
  • Assist with verifying payments for benefits.
  • Provide relief for the Benefits Supervisor when needed.
  • Assist with special projects as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of responsible administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with benefits plans.

Required Knowledge:

  • Employee Benefits:General understanding of benefits plans and policies, including HIPAA.
  • Customer Service:Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluating customer satisfaction.

Required Skills:

  • Computer Skills:Proficiency in using personal computers with Word, Excel, and related software to effectively complete various administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal Relationships:Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with Team Members and outside organizations. Effectively respond to and resolve inquiries and disputes.
  • Time Management:Ability to plan and organize daily work routine, estimate expected time of completion for work elements, and establish a personal schedule accordingly. Implement work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
  • Critical Thinking:Strong analytical skills, including using logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate routine situations and research information to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches.

Required Abilities:

  • Communication:Ability to effectively communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing, including the preparation of detailed reports with numerical information and statistics. Handle a variety of benefit and insurance issues with tact and diplomacy in a confidential manner. Listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing.
  • Financial Management:Ability to perform routine arithmetic, algebraic, and statistical applications to perform benefit transactions.
