Overview

HJF is seeking a Biocurator to assist with the research data handling requirements for research study/protocols. Contractor extracts, interprets, synthesizes, and archives data from various sources, standardizing it to make biological information more discoverable and accessible.

This position will be in support of United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) Technical Research Support Services located at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. USAMRIID works closely with other U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) organizations, Department of Defense (DoD), the Interagency (including Interagency Laboratories), and private companies to accomplish its mission of protecting the Warfighter from biological threats and being prepared to investigate disease outbreaks or threats to public health. This includes conducting Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation (RDTE) of medical countermeasure against biological threats and the safety, quality assurance, project management, and core support required for these research activities.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Contractor shall perform molecular and genomic analysis procedures, in BSL-2 as required, aggregate, analyze, and interpret microbiological, molecular, sequence and phenotypic data in support of laboratory programs and projects.
  • Contractor shall utilize bioinformatics applications to support the analysis of laboratory-acquired data.
  • Contractor shall maintain and improve existing Microsoft Access databases to support the retention, retrieval, and analysis of experimental data.
  • Contractor shall develop and apply computer codes to support the processing and analysis of laboratory acquired data.
  • Contractor shall prepare technical reports and manuscripts for publication. Prepare monthly Biocurator BRMR Progress Reports concerning activities related to these tasks.
  • Contractor shall, with technical direction, provide culture identification and characterization data to support the reference material collection using current microbiological, molecular, and immunodiagnostic assays, to include sequencing on Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, and equivalent platforms.
  • CONUS/OCONUS travel may be required in support of the diagnostic mission and/or presentation of scientific research.
  • Contractor shall train, and competency assess Division Personnel on key laboratory practices, procedures and techniques

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200 - $190,200. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
