Job Description

OVERVIEW

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for championing supplier food safety and overseeing the procurement of raw materials and packaging for the entire Covington site. You will work with site experts and both internal and external partners to ensure the safety and effectiveness of General Mills' products and processes.

PLANT OVERVIEW

Covington is a high-performance work system plant with approximately 465 team members that make cereal and salty snacks products supporting our Morning Foods and Snacks Operating Units. We have 8 manufacturing systems and 2 facilities that produce some of General Mills' most important brands, including Cheerios, Wheaties, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Bugles, Chex Mix, and more! The Covington plant is a strategic manufacturing site that has been in operation for over 35 years with long-standing community involvement in the area.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide Food Safety & Quality leadership and direction through technical mastery in the areas of regulatory compliance, SPC, system capability, sanitation, and food safety risk mitigation and champion material supplier food safety and regulatory compliance
  • Manage specific material categories (grains, sweeteners, flavorings, film, corrugated, etc.) by identifying and reducing supplier food safety and regulatory risk, providing technical category expertise, ensuring specification compliance, and assessing supplier performance; provide food safety, quality, and regulatory training with our suppliers and external GMI partners
  • Provide leadership as needed for global initiatives, including but not limited to process improvements and process standardization
  • Build alignment and strategy with cross-functional partners, lead risk assessments and root cause analysis activities for issue resolution

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering or Food Processing Technology, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of food safety or quality-related experiences
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, ability to apply engineering principles, and ability to troubleshoot with strong proficiency in statistical analysis
  • Ability and willingness to flex work schedule when required to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation - this includes night and weekend on-call support and occasional early/late work hours
    • Available for ~0-5 calls per week, with most cases triaged over the phone
  • Strong understanding of FSSC Standards and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative with a strong bias for action to advance initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize activities effectively to meet timelines
  • Flexibility and motivation to cover all areas of Food Safety and Quality and able to create innovative solutions to problems with limited resources
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships and get work accomplished with and through people at all levels of the organization, differing styles, and multiple functions
  • Ability to lead constructive, positive change within a plant environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated history of utilizing problem-solving tools (Root cause analysis including DMAIC, PDCA. FMEA, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to excel in a high-performance, team-based environment with influencing skills to affect change/ department direction
  • Ability to visualize a future state, streamline, and simplify current systems
  • ASQ CQE or ASQ Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $91900.00 - $138000.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
