Job Description

Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Kidney Business Unitto support our aspirations of bringing Povetacicept and Inaxaplin, Phase 3 investigational therapies that have the potential to transform lives across multiple serious diseases, to patients.

TheSenior Director, Patient Support Lead willbe key to creating the necessary processes, systems, infrastructure, and operations for the Patient Support organization within the US Kidney Business Unit.They will define the appropriate patient support model, develop the launch strategy, recruit and develop a high-performing patient support team (operations, communications, care management), and ensure execution of launch activities.We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US patient support and operations roles, demonstrated success in leading high performing teams, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.

This role is a key member of the US Kidney Business Unit leadership team and is based out of Boston, MA, HQ in the Seaport District. Must live and/or be able to relocate to Boston.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads Patient Support day to day operational aspects, including key activities & programs that drive performance against access, patient logistics, and service goals
  • Sets vision for program operations, including long term strategic plans, annual goals & related business plans
  • Works with the broader team and internal stakeholders to develop eligibility criteria for patient support programs
  • Manages operations project portfolio including external budget, with a focus on initiatives that drive operational effectiveness and enhance the patient experience
  • Drives flawless execution of our operational plans, through ensuring the team is clear on priorities, effective cross functional partnerships, and thoughtful training & implementation plans
  • Makes the overall program better by driving continuous improvement and innovation & through maintaining an external focus
  • Hire and coach functional team leads to achieve exceptional performance
  • Retains, develops, and engages top talent
  • Serve as a core member of the Patient Support Leadership Team, representing operations perspective and engaging "above" role to improve our effectiveness in the region, i.e. can think at a broader level than one's own function
  • Coordinates closely with cross functional colleagues, ensuring a culture of collaboration and receptivity to feedback
  • Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 12 years+ work experience in healthcare/pharmaceuticals, 5 years in leading teams
  • Additional preferred experiences:
    • Specialty product launch experience
    • Work within highly competitive markets
    • Kidney experience

Required Skills

  • Expertise in patient support, patient education, market access, or marketing
  • Track record of proven ability to motivate, coach & inspire a team towards clear goals and hold accountable for results
  • Thrives on working in a fast paced, evolving environment with attention to detail, committed follow-through, an appropriate judgement in decision making
  • Excellent communication skills: patient-centric and customer-service minded
  • Works as a team player in diverse settings with a spirit of continuous improvement and innovation

Pay Range:

$212,000 - $318,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
