Job Description

Ingram Barge Company is looking to hire aHeavy Equipment Operator in Burnside, LA. The primary responsibility of this role is to operate heavy machinery such as a material handler, crane, forklift, cherry picker, etc. to safely and efficiently load and unload cargo. Additional duties include performing and maintaining daily crane inspection reports to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.

What you will be doing:

Heavy Equipment Operation:

  • Safely operatingheavy equipmentto unload cargo, lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment with precision.
  • Performing thorough pre-operational checks and inspections to ensuresafety and functionality.
  • Adheringto all safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Coordinatingwith riggers and ground personnel to ensure safe and efficientoperations.

Material Handling:

  • Efficiently managingthe movement, storage, and organization of materials within the worksite
  • Loading and unloading materials from trucks to barge, barge to truck, barge to barge, and loading crew boats
  • Ensuringproper labeling and documentation of materials to maintain accurate inventory records
  • Utilizingforklifts, front end loaders and other material handling equipment as needed to support operations
  • Operatingand inspecting material handler/crane, ensuring it is in optimal working condition at all times

Maintenance and Reporting:

  • Performing daily inspections on material handlers or cranes and other equipment to ensure reliability and safety
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate reports ofoperations, inspections, and maintenance activities
  • Reporting any defects, damages, or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly

Additional Duties:

  • Collaboratingwith team members to ensure smooth and efficient workflow
  • Participatingin safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and safety procedures
  • Performing other duties as assigned or requested to support the overall operations and success of the team
  • Frequently carrying, dragging, and pulling of wires, lines, rigging, and ropes
  • Working on the river apron, and in the cargo holds of barges being loaded and unloaded
  • Assisting in crane signaling operations to lift and move cargo in normal daily stevedoring operations
  • Shoveling and sweeping barge/ramp/dock while trucks are unloading product
  • Yard maintenance as needed
  • Painting/housekeeping of full facility
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good judgment skills
  • Able to make quick discussions for effective job production
  • Demonstration of the Ingram Way
  • Ability to uphold Ingram's high safety standards
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity
  • Strong communication skills with all levels within the organization

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Job includes working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods of time
  • Working at multiple dock/jobs at different locations
