$24.59-$31.78.

Fermilab's Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Project is looking for Skilled Laborers, including Technicians, Sr. Technicians, Electrical Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, and more, to join our team in Lead, South Dakota.

This is your chance to leverage your hands-on construction experience and play a crucial role in one of the largest and most exciting scientific endeavors on the planet. As part of the LBNF/DUNE project, you'll be working on state-of-the-art facilities deep underground, helping to unlock the mysteries of neutrinos in an environment that demands precision, safety, and innovation.

Position Overview: We are preparing to hire multiple skilled positions around August or September 2025, offering a three-year term with potential for renewal.

These positions will involve shift work (including night and weekend shifts). If you have industrial or commercial construction experience and are ready to take your skills to a one-of-a-kind scientific project, this is the opportunity for you!

What your day-to-day as a Technician at Fermilab will look like:

  • Hands-on Construction: Utilize hand tools, heavy machinery, and specialized equipment to assist in the installation and maintenance of critical structural components deep underground.
  • Underground Operations: Work one mile underground, assisting in the installation of complex detector systems, including cabling, safety systems, and communications infrastructure.
  • Heavy Machinery Operation: Operate cranes, hoists, and other heavy machinery to move large components within cleanroom and cryostat areas.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and researchers in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Use your construction background to assist with testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems, ensuring that everything operates smoothly in this challenging environment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to strict safety regulations in all aspects of your work, ensuring a secure working environment for yourself and your teammates.
  • Mentoring and Training: Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians, contributing to the development of a strong, collaborative team.

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum Criteria: Industrial/Commercial Construction Experience: Previous hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery in an industrial or commercial construction environment.
  • Advanced Criteria: Mechanical and Electrical Know-How: Strong background in mechanical and/or electrical systems with the ability to adapt your skills to the scientific environment.
  • Problem Solvers: Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues that arise in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Safety-Focused: Experience adhering to strict safety standards and protocols in challenging environments, especially when working with heavy machinery and at heights.
  • Willingness to Learn: A commitment to learning about the science behind the project and adapting your skills to meet the needs of the LBNF/DUNE Project.
