Job Summary: KEMET, a YAGEO Group company, is seeking a highly motivated and energetic person to assist the Equipment Engineering function within the Simpsonville, SC location. The technician will be responsible to help the equipment engineering team design, build, modify, debug, run and install equipment. As part of this team, the technician will always strive to work efficiently and help the team be successful. The technician will work to improve methods so equipment can always be built quicker, at lower cost and at higher quality. The technician will also help trouble shoot and repair production equipment as directed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Understand all tasks that they are asked to do and ask questions when anything is not clear.
- Order components and supplies as directed by engineers, managers, or other technicians.
- Maintain good housekeeping in their work areas along with outlying project areas.
- Organize the storage of components and supplies in the work area so items can be easily found as needed.
- Read, interpret, and follow electrical schematics and instruction manuals as they apply to the manufacturing of equipment.
- Install components on control panels and wire the panels based on the documentation and instructions provided.
- Complete the machine wiring to all sections of the equipment based on the documentation and written and verbal instructions provided. Do this wiring in a neat and professional way.
- If any changes are needed on the documentation and instructions, make "red line" changes while working so the documentation and instructions reflect the final "as built" equipment.
- Follow up in the software system (AutoCAD, Word, etc.) and make the "red line" changes to the documentation and instructions in the system so that the archived documentation matches the final "as built" equipment.
- Document the machine wiring once completed so that this documentation (drawings, Word document, pictures) can be used by suppliers or other KEMET technicians to make future duplicate machines. The goal of this documentation is to allow KEMET to make multiple machines that look the same to the production operators and maintenance team.
- Work with suppliers to instruct them on how to wire KEMET machines by providing drawings, Word documents, pictures, and verbal instructions.
- Work with engineers and other technicians to get equipment debugged and working. Make any changes as needed so equipment can run efficiently and provide the intended function.
- Assume an active role in the training of Kemet personnel of test equipment and demonstrate ability to cross-train with other technicians, production, and support personnel as required.
- Trouble shoot new and existing production equipment as needed. Be able to connect to the PLC / controls system to understand the software program and debug / fix machine problems.
- Train other technicians in equipment engineering and production on trouble shooting of production equipment along with verbal and written communication skills.
- Help develop new equipment / testers as needed. This can include building special testers, special fixtures, custom circuits, and circuit boards as needed.
- Perform mechanical tasks as needed (drill holes, tap holes, cut material, assemble / attach components, etc.)
- Be a self-starter / self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills; operate independently with limited supervision.
- Strive to always learn new skills to grow in your position and become an expert on specific equipment that you are involved with.
- Suggest design improvements and better methods whenever possible.
- Move and install equipment along with interconnect cables such as electric power, hydraulic lines, and hook-up air lines.
- Support Production as required.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in an electrical technical field or 10+ Years of Experience in a technical environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and flexibility.
- Proficiency in hands on technical work in Engineering and manufacturing environments.
- 3+ years of experience in mechatronics technology or related field.
- Experience with PLC\ HMI programming, Mechatronics, Motion Control, Vision Systems, and control systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, and electromechanical components.
- Experience with commissioning and testing mechatronics systems.
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, hands-on, diligent, and team player.
- Willingness to work in a variety of environments ranging from office to test lab to production environment.
