Job Summary/Primary Purpose: The Business Technology Specialist provides local support for all computer equipment, telephone, and point of sale systems. The individual will assist in providing training and training materials for software and applications for staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversight of routine maintenance for all technology equipment, keeping up to date records, inventories, system maps, standard operating procedures, and crisis response processes.
  • Manage a year-round preventive maintenance plan for all technology systems, including the coordination of installing software updates and patches for all Kroc applications to remain current and up to date.
  • Coordinate and participate in the delivery of training and information guidelines on various Microsoft Office 365 applications such as, but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive, and SharePoint for staff.
  • Maintain all technology related licensing and/or certification processes required for the operation of the Kroc Center and its systems including current information and renewal timing and projections for budgeting and planning use.
  • Responsible for managing the installation, repairs, upgrades and general maintenance for Point-of-Sale (POS) system hardware and software.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the Point-of-Sale system and processes by participating in the training of staff on proper POS usage and providing support for related issues.
  • Follow established Salvation Army technology policies and procedures and collaborate with Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) and/or Territorial Headquarters (THQ) as appropriate to represent the unique needs and systems required by Kroc operations.
  • Provide support as needed to DHQ and/or THQ in maintaining networked equipment, including managed switches, cabling, routers, internet connectivity, computer and phone systems.
  • Participate in the short and long-range technology planning processes, guided by the Kroc leadership team as required.
  • Provide 'on-call' support outside of normal work hours for critical system support and system maintenance. Schedule will be flexible and will include some evening and weekend hours.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent skills gained through 2 years of experience in supporting computer systems and software applications required.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Knowledge of IT principles, concepts and methods; systems testing and evaluation principles, methods and tools; IT Security principles and methods; commercial off the shelf (COTS) products.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill with Microsoft 365 applications and cloud-based storage & sharing solutions.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Power Automate and Microsoft SharePoint is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal skills, tack & diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with complex factors and ideas not easily evaluated and to make decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training as established by The Salvation Army.

Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision. Ability to sit for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. Ability to kneel, crawl, or work in difficult or tight locations. This position may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: Usual office working conditions. May be required at times to work evenings and weekends and travel as request to other locations. In addition, portions of the primary work facility may be considered humid (natatorium) while other locations (gymnasium) may be considered moderately loud in nature.
