Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in the related field or 3-5 years of related accounting/business/HR experience preferred.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Finance & Human Resources oversees the Business & Finance and Human Resources Departments within the Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel. This position reports to the Associate Director of Finance & Administration and they supervise the Business Managers and the Human Resources Manager. This position manages all financial and budgetary operations including accounts receivable and payable functions, continuous budget monitoring and analysis, and ensuring compliance with all UGA and USG policies. This position also supervises all Human Resources processes including payroll, recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention efforts. This position will ensure accurate data management and reporting, assisting divisions in utilizing administrative data for effective decision-making. Key tasks include maintaining updated policies and procedures for accounting and HR administrative functions while supporting the strategic needs and initiatives of the Georgia Center. The Assistant Director will collaborate with division heads, oversee year-end budget balancing and reporting, and ensure proper management of payroll and personnel processes. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting, can support human resources processes, and demonstrates a commitment to enhancing organizational performance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience in managing multiple financial priorities simultaneously, with a strong understanding of revenue streams, budgeting, and operations.
  • Experience in a leadership role within finance and HR, with a track record of successful team supervision.
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently. Excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty/staff, fellow employees, and public.
  • Familiarity with various administrative systems utilized by the University preferred.
  • Advanced data management and reporting skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidate must pass background check and be able to maintain a position of trust.

Provide leadership and supervision to the Business & Finance Department and the Human Resources Department. Implement business process improvements and monitor team performance to ensure high-quality services provided by each department.

  • Conduct regular meetings with staff, review duties and processes, and assess staff performance.
  • Conduct annual performance assessments and develop professional development plans for staff.
  • Set and oversee department goals, and serve as back-up for department staff as needed

Work with the Associate Director of Finance and Administration to manage all financial operations within the Georgia Center including budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and continuous budget monitoring.

  • Work with the Associate Director of Finance & Administration to develop and maintain the Georgia Center's annual operating budget (approx. $25 million).
  • Manage budgets for Foundation Funds, Sponsored Projects, Capital Projects, Departmental Sales & Services, State Funds, and Auxiliary Funds.
  • Provide financial reports (annual, monthly, and as-needed) and business analytics upon request
  • Meet with division heads quarterly to review department budgets

Oversee all Human Resources processes including payroll, recruitment, hiring requests, employee onboarding, training, salary actions, and retention. Ensure compliance with all UGA, USG, and EOO requirements.

  • Manage the annual employee evaluation process and employee relations issues, and work with supervisors to handle hiring, promotions, and position management.
  • Assist Georgia Center supervisors in providing feedback, communication, evaluations, and supporting individual development plans for employees.

Work with the Associate Director of Finance & Administration to oversee financial and human resources data and reporting in the Georgia Center. Produce any UGA or OVVPSO required reporting in finance.

  • Work with the Associate Director of Finance and Administration and accounting team to oversee year-end budget balancing, deferral requests, project year-end spending, auxiliary business plans, sales tax reports, aging receivables, outstanding encumbrances, quality performance metrics annual reporting, annual economic impact, change fund management, and unrelated business income.
  • Produce regular reporting analysis and assist other Divisions with administrative data for decision making.
