If so, the YMCA of the North Shore is looking for a Family Engagement Specialist to join our team!


About the Role

As a Family Engagement Specialist, you will play a key role in fostering relationships with families, organizing engagement activities, and ensuring that YMCA programs remain inclusive and accessible. Your work will strengthen community connections, provide essential resources, and create a welcoming environment for all.


Key Responsibilities
Family Engagement & Outreach

  • Lead family engagement efforts by organizing events, workshops, and community outreach activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families seeking YMCA membership, programs, and support services.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families.


Community Collaboration & Resource Development

  • Represent the YMCA at Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) meetings to stay informed about family support initiatives.
  • Maintain and distribute a comprehensive list of community resources, including child care support, employment services, and government assistance programs.
  • Partner with local schools to support children and families transitioning into kindergarten.


Communication & Advocacy

  • Assist with newsletters, social media, and website updates to ensure families receive timely and relevant information.
  • Promote culturally inclusive practices within YMCA programs, including diverse holiday celebrations and multilingual resources.
  • Advocate for family needs and help remove barriers to participation.


Program & Event Coordination

  • Support and coordinate family-friendly YMCA events, ensuring smooth logistics and participant engagement.
  • Organize community donation drives (e.g., coats, backpacks, school supplies) to meet the needs of families.
  • Assist families in navigating YMCA and community services, including EEC programs and financial assistance options.


What We're Looking For

  • Passion for family engagement and community building.
  • Experience working in outreach, family support, or a similar role.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners, schools, and local organizations.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus!

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in family engagement, education, or community outreach.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate effectively to and advocate for diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong ability to facilitate inclusive family programming and work with diverse populations.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to travel between locations for community engagement and supervision.
  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends for family events.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while maintaining alertness.
  • Position may require bending, kneeling, leaning, and walking.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to speak concisely, communicate effectively, and lead group discussions.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and community engagement.
