DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Cook 1, you will perform specialized cooking tasks at Southeastern Veterans' Center. Your duties will include operating kitchen equipment, reporting any equipment malfunctions, and cleaning and sanitizing cooking utensils and equipment. In this position, you will maintain recipe files, measure and label ingredients, and assist in developing and testing new recipes. You can expect to prepare cooked meals for regular and therapeutic diets and check food items throughout the cooking process to ensure quality. Additionally, you will prepare food for special meals and parties, assist in the training of new cooks, and process advance food preparation for the next day.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are as follows, with a 30-minute lunch break:
    • Position 1: 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, working every other weekend
    • Position 2: 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, working every weekend
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable Preparation for Work:

  • Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience as a cook in a large volume food preparation operation
  • Experience in a long-term care facility

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
